The Basic Guide to Creating the Perfect At-Home Wine Tasting

At Keel and Curley Winery, we are home to many delicious, one of a kind wines, from our Sweet Blueberry Wine to our rich Black Raspberry Merlot and more. We are always working on new, homegrown wine flavors and are proud of our collection of wines that suit all palates!

When visiting our farm for an authentic Tampa wine tasting experience, guests can try eight of our delightfully delectable wines. The experience provided on our farm is unmatched, but if you can’t make it to the Tasting Room, have no fear! We’ve put together this simple guide to creating the perfect wine-tasting experience at home with Keel and Curley wine.

How to Set the Wine Tasting Mood

A wine-tasting night is the perfect opportunity to gather friends and loved ones and enjoy the unique, delicious Keel and Curley wines. We encourage community in wine culture and believe that surrounding yourself with good company will enhance any wine-tasting experience, especially at home.

Choosing a theme for your wine-tasting night is one of the best ways to set the mood. Are you wanting to try wines with fruity notes, such as our Strawberry Blush wine? Add some flowers and bowls of fruit to help set the theme for the evening.

If you are interested in trying a wide variety of wines, we also offer a build-your-own-case option. No matter which delicious Keel Farms wines you end up selecting, we highly recommend making your tasting room cozy with candles and comfortable seating options for all your guests.

What Wines Should You Have?

Whether you are looking to try each flavor of our sweet wines, or have a few in particular that  interest you, it is simple to find them either online, in the Tasting Room, or at your favorite local grocery store

One of the best parts about participating in a tasting is getting to know each of the unique flavor notes. For example, you can taste the notes of lemons, oranges, tangerines, pineapples, peaches, and strawberries in our Sangria, or the notes of raspberries, blackberries, blueberries, and strawberries in our Wild Berry Pinot Noir. Keel Farms is proud to produce carefully crafted and perfected wines showcasing creative fruit combinations that we are known for today.

Wine Pairings and Palate Cleansers

When visiting our Tampa winery and restaurant, guests are offered carefully curated pairings to match with their wines. If you are hosting the wine tasting at home, there are many options that you can offer your guests as well!

An important note for wine tastings is that it is crucial to cleanse your palate between wines. This helps to understand the full flavors of each wine that you try. Consider offering your guests a baguette or any form of light bread, cracker, or rice cake. The carbohydrates in these snacks will neutralize the flavors in your mouth.

Another snack idea often used by sommeliers is olives. In wine competitions, Graber olives are used as a palate cleanser. Other recommendations include rare roast beef, celery, pears, or plain room-temperature flat water.

Having accouterments, such as light cheese chosen to be paired with the wines, is also a way to create the perfect wine-tasting experience. While different foods often have different effects on various flavor profiles, we recommend curating a charcuterie board with several options.

For example, our Strawberry Riesling is balanced, light, and delicate and would go great with blue cheese, tropical fruit, and sweet desserts, whereas our Peach Chardonnay is slightly tart with a soft acidity and would be enhanced by lighter pasta dishes and soft cheeses.
